The Dairy

A charming and welcoming self-catering holiday cottage, formerly a working dairy, situated within a gated barnyard. Perfect for 1 or 2 guests seeking somewhere relaxing and secluded, it has views onto an apple orchard and access to it’s own private garden. Surrounded by the gently rolling hills of the South Downs National Park, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty and yet just an hours drive from London, 20 minutes from Brighton and 10 minutes from Lewes, makes it extremely well-connected. The Dairy is in the rural village of Streat, overlooking the South Downs, with the artistic village of Ditchling and Glyndebourne Opera House it’s close neighbours, and a choice of pubs with excellent food and service within walking distance.

Guest Reviews

“Our stay in the beautiful old Dairy has been just the tonic we needed. The peace and tranquility has done us both the world of good. Beautiful towns and villages on the doorstep… fantastic walks in every direction… also excellent pubs locally… we will go home relaxed and refreshed with lots of happy memories.”

This is the most beautiful accommodation we’ve found. The location is very special and the barn is a gorgeous place to stay. The bed is extremely comfortable as is the living area. We loved the beautiful jam made by Jink’s daughter and also the tiny stall at the gate - most delicious cake ever. Having eggs, jam, croissants and coffee and tea provided was a lovely touch. Jinks and Steve were very welcoming but also ensured we had privacy - a perfect mix. The lovely outdoor garden has beautiful views and is a lovely place to sit with coffee. We can’t recommend Jink’s place enough! Superb, quiet and relaxing (and lovely friendly well behaved dogs).

“We’ve enjoyed another lovely week here at The Dairy, thank you both for your friendly welcome… It is delightful and we have already decided to return next year. We’ve enjoyed the glorious Sussex Downland walking and scenery, and the rich cultural heritage and art/craft scene of this area. A week was far too short!”

This is a beautiful and comfortable place to stay in a stunning setting. It is incredibly peaceful, and if you like walking or cycling, or just appreciating the countryside, you are in for a treat. The Dairy is extremely clean and comfortable, and thoughtfully well-equipped with all you need for a cosy stay. Jinks is a great host, and her daughter's cakes and jams in the Streat Food cupboard just outside the gate are a constant and delicious temptation! I already want to return, but will certainly try to book again for next year as it was such a relaxing break.

“What a magical place! From walking through the front door we felt it a home away from home, surrounded by the luscious South Downs, not to mention the garden on our very doorstep. And needless to say the quality of craftsmanship, attention to detail and consideration of what’s needed from kitchen cookware to whiskey glasses have been relished!”

Beautiful, chilled and rustic. The Dairy is set in an idyllic country garden, surrounded by fabulous flowers. It feels very private, yet is close to the hosts house, which was reassuring for me as I was traveling alone for a course being held locally. It was the perfect space to rest and recharge between long days of study. Highly recommend.
